Service-Learning Program
Program Description
Students in select special education classrooms around Columbus collaborate with YATC members to create ongoing community service projects. All YATC members and participants can volunteer in these projects, which may include such activities as food drives for local food banks, assisting children in after-school programs, or improving local parks and recreation centers.
Students in the program may also be paired with a YATC mentor. Mentors encourage participation in social and recreational activities with peers as well as foster successful transition outcomes for young adults.
Time
The time and weekday of the YATC Service-Learning Program differs in each school. YATC Service-Learning Instructors typically spend two hours per week in each classroom. Some service projects may occur outside of normal school hours.
