Sibling Support Groups

Program Description

Transition is a time of change and decision-making for the whole family, and it’s important not to forget siblings! Sibling relationships tend to be the longest-lasting family relationships. Siblings not only have the right to be heard, but they can also offer very valuable insight into the lives of their brother or sister with a disability.

YATC facilitates Sibling Support Groups for children and teens who have a brother or sister with a disability. Siblings have the opportunity to get to know peers who have a sibling with a disability, and to share similar feelings, concerns, and experiences in a safe setting. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and learn more about their sibling’s disability and disabilities in general.

Time

Sibling Support Groups meet one hour a week for six weeks at various dates and times.
